Shoppers and Health Groups Hold Over 65 Store Manager Meetings and Demonstrations Against Toxic Chemicals Found in Dollar Tree Products
Houston, TX – Today, hundreds of health experts, doctors, researchers and activists held demonstrations and store manager meetings at over 65 Dollar Tree store locations in 26 states across America during the busy holiday shopping season. Coordinated by the Campaign for Healthier Solutions, these dollar store shoppers worked to educate other customers and raise awareness about toxic chemicals found in numerous products sold at one of the nation’s largest dollar store chains. Despite the scale of this national demonstration, protest organizers noted that Dollar Tree corporate officials have so far failed to respond to the campaign in any formal way. Read More

Houston, TX – Hoy, cientos de expertos de la salud, doctores, investigadores y activistas llevaron a cabo manifestaciones y reuniones con los gerentes de tiendas en más de 65 tiendas de Dollar Tree en 26 estados a lo largo del país durante la época de compras para los días festivos. [Washington, DC] – On Tuesday, August 16th, the Campaign for Healthier Solutions, the American Sustainable Business Council, and the Learning Disabilities Association of America met with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to press for action on toxic chemicals found in products purchased from the nation’s largest discount retail chains (commonly known as ‘dollar stores’).

Dollar Tree Offers ‘Copy and Paste’ Sustainability Report, Shows No Progress on Chemical Safety
[Washington, DC] – Today, a coalition of consumers, concerned parents, health experts, business leaders, and scientists responded to Dollar Tree’s recently released 2016 ‘Sustainability Report’ expressing deep concern that the company has made no improvements or adopted new policies to identify and phase out toxic chemicals from products it sells since its last report in 2013. Public health advocates noted that a comparison of the product safety policy sections in Dollar Tree’s 2013 and 2016 Sustainability Reports are almost wordfor-word identical in language and content, with no new actions or policies listed since 2013. Observers are led to believe that one of the nation’s largest retail chains may not have taken any action to further protect the health and safety of its customers and employees now for several years. Environmental Justice Advocates Celebrate Victory as Lawsuit Settlement Directs EPA to Protect Communities from Chemical Spills
Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) settled a lawsuit brought by the Environmental Justice Health Alliance (EJHA) and its allies, and agreed to finally implement a 40-year old Congressional mandate to protect communities from industrial chemical spills.
