January 22, 2026Coming Clean condemns ICE violence, violation of civil rights, and racial profiling

STATEMENT

Coming Clean is a national network committed to environmental health and safety for everyone, regardless of race, gender or immigration status. We condemn the ongoing and escalating violence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and agents against civilians.

Last year, the White House used dehumanizing language to target immigrants, and authorized masked ICE officers  to raid farmworker communities, detain lawful U.S. residents who had criticized the government, and deport thousands of immigrants with no criminal convictions or pending criminal charges. Since the beginning of Trump’s second term, ICE officers were involved in over 14 documented shootings, but none have faced legal consequences.

Civil Rights organizations have documented ICE’s widespread racial profiling. ICE agents are detaining and arresting people of color regardless of their citizenship status. ICE has also escalated violence against protesters and bystanders, including the use of chemical agents known to be toxic. Doctors in Minnesota say that ICE activity is endangering lives by discouraging patients in need from seeking medical care.

At the same time, the Trump Administration continues to slash air and water pollution protections and grant concessions to the fossil fuel industry that worsen human rights protections and environmental health outcomes for communities of color.

We stand with our members on the ground who exercise their legal rights to live, protest, and document ICE activity in their neighborhoods. ICE’s escalating violence and clear violation of civil rights threatens everyone’s health and safety.
