The nonprofit environmental health network, Coming Clean, is seeking to hire a Network Director to join our team.
Coming Clean is a justice-based national environmental health network of 130+ member organizations and 400 experts. Together we work to reform the chemical and fossil fuel industries so they are no longer a source of harm and to secure systemic changes that leave no worker or community behind and allow a safe chemical and clean energy economy to flourish. Position Overview:
The Network Director is a key part of the Program Directors team - with the Executive Director, Director of Communications and Research, and the Federal Policy Director - which lead Coming Clean’s Programs Department. The Network Director plays an important role in the leadership of the organization, helping to lead the organization and guide programmatic strategy. The Network Director also oversees the work of Coming Clean’s contracted leadership, teams, initiatives, and campaigns as well as provides oversight for the whole of the Coming Clean Network. The Network Director organizes and manages the network, onboarding new members, tracking membership data, and facilitates collaborative membership spaces.
The Network Director will report to, and take direction from the Executive Director.
Responsibilities Include:
Programmatic & Organizational Leadership
- Serve on an Executive Leadership team to set the direction of the organization, meet with Directors and Officers bi-weekly to discuss organizational development
- Coordinate with the Federal Policy Director and Director of Communications and Research for the smooth functioning of Coming Clean’s Program’s Department and programmatic work
- Assist the Executive Director in developing and executing programmatic strategies for the organization; participate in annual planning and other strategic conversations
- Maintain an eye towards the macro movement ecosystem and needs; identify key issue areas, areas of expertise, constituents, and organizations that we could engage with in order to win chemical policy reform
- Serve on the Member Giving grants committee
Team, Initiative, and Campaigns Oversight & Support
- Assist and provide guidance to team, initiative, and campaign leaders to set and track annual goals, workplans, and budgets
- With the Development Director, track teams performance and progress against workplans, including convening quarterly check-ins with leaders and staff
- Stay generally abreast of Coming Clean’s work by attending to relevant calls, emails, news, and research
- With the Chief Operating Officer, oversee more than a dozen team/initiative leader contracts to ensure all parties are adhering to the contracted agreements
- Lead agenda development and facilitation for monthly strategy and operations calls among leaders and staff
- Support conflict resolution within the network to promote successful collaboration and ensure activities adhere to Coming Clean principles
- Support the development of new teams, as needed; orienting new team leaders and helping them establish leadership roles in their team, and supporting member recruitment and participation as a new team is developed
Coming Clean Network Management & Engagement
- Guide members through the onboarding process from initial contact through orientation and extended follow up
- Maintain updated onboarding and membership documents
- Manage our member site (platform: Groups.io), including adding new members to main or sub lists and ensuring the directory and files library are current
- Maintain a detailed membership database in our EveryAction CRM, keeping up to date with changes in member data
- Lead agenda development and facilitation for some network-wide spaces, such as: All Member calls and in-person strategy meetings
- Ensure network members and network activities comply with Coming Clean’s principles
- Lead implementation and maintenance of Coming Clean network guidelines, onboarding processes, accountability procedures, and other policies
- Support cross-team collaborations and/or collaborations between Coming Clean and allied networks, movements, and other opportunities
Position Qualifications:
- 3-5 years’ organizing experience with constituencies concerned about toxic chemicals, climate change, environmental health and justice, and/or other relevant issues; and demonstrating increasing responsibility
- Experience in strategic analysis, and development of successful strategies, action plans, and outcomes
- Demonstrated excellence in progressive movement organizing, alliance building, and principled collaboration
- Success in managing multi-stakeholder relationships, and excellence in working effectively with individuals and organizations of diverse backgrounds, interests, and priorities
- Strong facilitation skills and professional or volunteer experience facilitating teams
- Effective project management, strong personal organization and ability to prioritize and tackle multiple projects and tasks at once within established deadlines and in accordance with long term plans
- Detail-oriented, tenacious, resilient
- Previous experience utilizing a CRM preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and robust listening skills
- Ability to accommodate communication with partners across US time zones, including periodic evening, night, or early morning calls, and travel as needed
- Proven ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment where colleagues meet mostly by phone and Zoom, and occasional in-person meetings
- Travel as needed to fulfill job functions, 2-6 times per year
Preferred Location:
This is a fully remote position within the United States, with preference for candidates in Vermont, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, West Virginia, Michigan, Missouri, or Washington.
Salary & Benefits:
Network Director is a full-time position. The salary range for this position is between $80,000-$90,000 annually. Salary is commensurate with experience and location. Benefits include a retirement program, health insurance reimbursement arrangement, dental insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and unplanned leave.
