Information Technology Specialist Job Announcement

The nonprofit environmental health network, Coming Clean, is seeking a full-time Information Technology Specialist to join our team.

Coming Clean is a national environmental health network of 150+ member organizations and experts, working in strategic partnership with the Environmental Justice Health Alliance for Chemical Policy Reform. Position Summary Description:

Coming Clean is seeking an Information Technology Specialist to provide website and technical support and optimize the IT and related activities and systems for the organization. Top-level duties include administering and troubleshooting the organization’s information technology and systems; providing day-to-day support and problem-solving of IT issues for staff; supporting domain and website management; and training staff on IT systems, programs, and hardware. The Information Technology Specialist is a well-rounded generalist, who is able to competently handle a wide variety of IT related administrative tasks and issues. A person who is effective in this role will be adept at collaborating and communicating effectively with non-technical staff on technical issues, and able to troubleshoot and work constructively to resolve IT problems for staff while working remotely. The Information Technology Specialist will keep abreast of best practices in the field and aware of new systems that would be advantageous to the smooth and effective operating of Coming Clean staff, network, and and teams.    

The Information Technology Support Specialist will report to, and take direction from the Operations & HR Manager..

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement organizational information technology systems, policies, and procedures for Coming Clean; create training materials and draft resources (including but not limited to: virtual workspace applications, cloud backups, cybersecurity).
  • Establish best practices and guidelines for the purchase and use of technology and equipment (including but not limited to: A/V equipment, computers, tablets, printers, scanners, monitors, desks).
  • Maintain asset management systems for organization-owned devices.
  • Set up Admin/Security Systems, install core programs, and remote IT access on Coming Clean-owned computers, tablets, and phones; ensure software is regularly updated.
  • Administer organizational Google Suite Workspace, set up new staff accounts.
  • Train staff and leaders on hardware, software programs, tools, and apps as needed.
  • Provide remote technical support for CC and EJHA staff and leaders as needed; troubleshoot issues with computers and other IT equipment, applications, and services; serve as point of contact for product specific technical support.
  • Lead A/V set up for in-person meetings; serve as Coming Clean lead and liaison with A/V vendors when needed; provide A/V support for virtual meetings and webinars. 
  • Oversee website domain and hosting services; DNS configuration; wordpress site updates; website MODX CMS management and staff access; assist with site content as needed.
  • Administer CRM database; assist staff with record management and use of platform. 
  • Oversee migration to new customer relationship management (CRM) platform.
  • Provide general tech support to the groups.io Member site, assisting staff and members with logging in and navigating the site; host periodic site training sessions for members and update training materials as needed.

General Expectations:

  • Participate fully in Coming Clean’s staff team (including staff meetings and calls, joint planning and work tracking, organization-wide events, intra-staff communications, thinking creatively about how to advance Coming Clean’s mission, etc.).
  • Communicate clearly and reliably as needed via phone, video conference, email, and in person with Coming Clean members, allies, staff, and consultants; pro-actively and constructively raising up challenges and pursuing solutions; and being accountable for achieving task deadlines (or modifying those deadlines with adequate notice if necessary).
  • Exhibit professional, courteous behavior; polite persistence; problem-solving skills for routine tasks as well as in urgent situations; promotion of Coming Clean program goals and principles; furtherance of our strategic partnership with EJHA; and alignment with Coming Clean’s mission, goals and objectives.
  • Ably represent Coming Clean at virtual and in-person gatherings.
  • Understand and adhere to the Coming Clean Principles, the Principles of Environmental Justice, the Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizing, and the Louisville Charter.

Position Qualifications:

  • 2 years of prior experience in a similar role (either work or volunteer)
  • Passion for the issues and work of Coming Clean and EJHA
  • Solid working knowledge of relevant applications, programs, operating systems, software, and hardware (Windows OS, Mac OS, Google Suite Workspace, AFI, Slack, Grasshopper, Bitwarden, Salsa/Bonterra CRM)
  • Basic understanding of HTML and experience with website CMS required; knowledge of and experience with MODX and website design is a plus
  • Knowledgeable of and able to implement cybersecurity best practices
  • Ability to travel periodically; adept with virtual/hybrid meeting A/V equipment set up
  • Efficient and effective troubleshooting abilities
  • Possess a strong aptitude and desire for learning new concepts, technologies, and methodologies quickly
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Self-management, keen attention to detail, ability to manage disruptions and unexpected complications without difficulty
  • Good organization, time management, and prioritization
  • Effective communication skills, including speaking, writing, and active listening, especially when dealing with the non-technical staff and other end-users
  • Great customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Willing to provide occasional support after hours and accommodate colleagues working in different time zones as needed

Location:  

This is a remote position within the United States; applicants in the following states are preferred: Maine, Vermont, Pennsylvania, DC, West Virginia, Michigan, Louisiana, Missouri, Texas, Washington. 

Salary:

Information Technology Specialist is a full-time position. The salary range for this position is between $52,500 to $55,000 annually. Salary is commensurate with experience, a cost of living adjustment may be made for those living in expensive areas. Benefits include a retirement program, health insurance reimbursement arrangement, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and unplanned leave.
