Protect fenceline communities from toxic chemical explosions

I am deeply concerned about the nearly 40% of U.S. residents who live in Fenceline Zones — areas less than three miles from a highly-volatile chemical facility.

Fenceline communities live with the daily threat of chemical leaks, spills and explosions that jeopardize their families’ health and can even be deadly. These facilities have already caused thousands of fires, explosions, and chemical spills, tens of thousands of injuries, and numerous deaths. And extreme weather that is fueled by climate change, like Hurricane Harvey in 2017, can cause chemical disasters that exacerbate these devastating impacts.

Please help address this growing problem by: 
– Ensuring that chemical facilities plan for emergencies and worst-case spill scenarios, and share that information with fenceline communities 
– Requiring continuous emissions monitoring, switching to safer chemicals and technologies, and other safety measures 
– Preventing the construction of new or expanded chemical facilities near homes and schools, and avoiding siting homes near existing facilities 
– Supporting 100% renewable energy programs and green energy benefits to slow climate change and move toward a clean energy future

The impacts of toxic chemical spills and explosions on fenceline communities is unacceptable, and it will continue if we don’t act.
